We asked our American Girl Hope, a few questions about the US vs UK . . . Why did you move from the US to the UK ? To attend the Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London Have you had British Fish and Chips, and if No, why, and if Yes, what did you think? Yes; I like the way they’re wrapped in paper. I heard it was best wrapped in newspaper . . . is that true ? How do British men differ from American ? In my opinion, English accents sound classier than American accents, therefore it feels more sexy to me. British Humour is definitely different as well. How did you hear about Funny Girls ? A member from our group research project found an auditions posting for Funny Girls, and proposed we attend the audition for additional research. Out topic for ‘preparation for cross-gendered and drag performance’ Whats the best and worst things about working at Funny Girls ? Worst : singing to a vocal track Best : the cast and production team, the challenge of make-up and heels, and dancing as a lady with our gorgeous men Do you have plans to return to America ? Yes, I perform in a New York City showcase at the end of October 2010. Tell us about your audition I auditioned as a male dancer with two other guys, in London,. After I performed the male dance combination, I asked if I could audition as a female. Luckily they gave me a chance so I put on Christina Aguileras ‘Aint no other man’ and did a special ode to my pop inspiration. I felt WAY out of my element, but I was so relieved I did it. Everyone should dress up and dance as the opposite sex at least once – it’s fantastically liberating. Is Blackpool like Las Vegas? No; Blackpool has a real seaside whereas Vegas has make-believe oceans. Most importantly, Vegas doesn’t have anything like Funny Girls If Hope was locked in Selfridges overnight, what would she do? Honestly – I’d hit the food court and have a huge feast (Now why does that not surprise us – Ed) Tell us something about your life before you came to the UK ? I was busking on Hollywood Boulevard to earn some extra cash You finally get your wish on top of the Eiffel Tower, use 3 words to describe the evening Chilling, eternal, sigh How was your roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding ? Does it beat burgers and hot dogs? Appropriately filling ! Burgers and hot dogs are not enough. Sunday roasts feel more wholesome in my belly as opposed to burgers/hot dogs that feel like corporate capitalist junk. By the way, the besy Yorkshire pudding is home-made at McHalls Hotel ! Is Hope a symbol of anything ? Someone once told me . . . . ‘If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes’ – St Clement of Alexandra . . . If anything my name symbolises a special place unseen and I’m here to assure you that one day, you’ll see it JHopes Profile Page {jcomments on}
