Acclaimed photographer JJ Waller visits Blackpool as he snaps the town for his fourth title 'JJ Waller's Blackpool' scheduled for publication in November.
No visit to Blackpool would be complete without a Funny Girls photo shoot. In the firt of his visits JJ took in the show, resulting in some fantastic images to be shared in his book very soon.
Back again later in the year, a behind the scences visit will bring his unique perspective to our backstage area.
A pioneering Covent Garden street entertainer and stand up comedy performer, Waller toured festivals and comedy clubs world wide, winning numerous plaudits which included a Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival for the show Mad Pookie 2.
Despite never having been given a Box Brownie as a child his interest in photography took pole position when he commenced an Editorial Photography Degree under the inspirational tutelage of Magnum photographer Mark Power and Photographer Jim Cooke. At this time he was shortlisted for an AA Travel Award and was a winner of the Thames & Hudson Student Photographer Prize. On leaving University Waller completed a 12 month period as Artist in Residence at Gatwick Airport sponsored by the BAA. He then toured the world as assistant to photographer Paul Lowe, at the time also with the Magnum agency. Waller subsequently spent a number of years as a photography producer in the advertising industry, working on many award-winning campaigns in both the US and the UK. Waller largely produced all aspects of these adverts including castings and locations for leading British photographers agent Wyatt–Clarke-Jones.
Waller has collaborated once again with leading comedy producer Mick Perrin on a variety of photographic and filming assignments for stand up comics. These include Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey, Paul Merton, Tony Robinson, Julian Clary, Nina Conti, Reginald D Hunter and Dylan Moran.
